The new NFT work

How can a virtual object cause fluctuations in the real world?
This piece explores the dissemination of a digital art work in the art market, art galleries, art academies, and Internet platforms and the controversies it causes. A work of art that exists in a virtual world leads to a real-world controversy. The works show the consumption and exploitation in the process of art production, and the game between various interest forces around art.

The Map of Utopia

Game maps play an essential role in the construction of virtual worlds. This work was inspired by an illustration from Thomas More’s novel Utopia, which invites viewers to imagine a utopian world.
Utopia arises from humanity’s dissatisfaction with the real world and represents an imagined perfect city-state. In the past, many people sought to escape reality by retreating into virtual worlds. Today, to what extent can the virtual world be constructed in the direction of humanity’s ideal world? Is it a space where the darker aspects of human nature are released, or is it a utopia?

Young Pioneers’ Palace

Set against the tension between humanity’s exploration of space and material life on Earth, and between the vast cosmos and the virtual world, this work stages an ongoing debate between the future and the present. During the Soviet era, centers known as Young Pioneer Palaces were established to cultivate young people’s interests in science and technology. These institutions later contributed many specialists to the Soviet space program. The model was subsequently promoted across other socialist countries. In places such as China and Cuba, Young Pioneer Palaces also carried a pronounced ideological atmosphere. Some occupied former royal palaces or colonial mansions; others were newly built.
For many Chinese children, however, the Young Pioneers’ Palace existed only in the imagination: a utopian promise actively constructed by society and a palace of ideals embedded in collective memory. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the former glory of these institutions faded into history.

AI farm

Farms serve as the intersection between human society and the natural world. However, as economies develop, natural resources are continuously exploited. Many extractions and consumptions, unnecessary yet prevalent in the industrialization of agricultural production, disrupt the ecological balance. This project aims to simulate a virtual digital farm via computer modeling. Artificial Intelligence will be tasked with maintaining a balanced ecosystem among animals, plants, soil, and water, setting it as a precondition for agricultural production. Furthermore, on the foundation of ecological balance, a smart contract will be established with the AI farm to ensure that the exploitation of nature is not compromised by the ecological damage caused by capitalistic greed.Simultaneously, this work provokes a debate: To what extent should human governance give way to algorithms for the world to regain balance? How should humans recalibrate their position amidst AI and nature?

Fly

A fly trapped against a window is akin to a person trapped within a screen. Both the audience’s gaze and its indifference generate anxiety. When the audience looks at the work, time outside the window accelerates.

An act of consumption is also a flow of energy and matter through the biological world. This work grew from two observations: people’s dependence on mobile phones and fungi that parasitize insects. I imagine algorithmic content recommendations, human emotion, addiction, internet-content production, and consumer behavior as an ecosystem. Platform algorithms and capital coevolve like mutually beneficial species, together creating a closed loop that parasitizes the brain.
