call from future

When the audience answered the phone, the handset of the phone would play the English dialogue voice which I recorded beforehand . “Grandpa’s grandpa, it’s me, your grandson’s granddaughter. Today, my grandpa died, he committed suicide. We are sad .I think he was sad at the time of your death ….. “I got inspiration from the animation« Doraemon »: The main characters in the animation often use time machines to communicate with people in different time. This dialogue is what I envisioned: one day from the future, our children and grandchildren will communicate with us through high-end technology(though the current science proves that we can only go to the future and cannot go back to the past) .The rapid development of information and media technology in life has brought us a sense of convenience and a sense of confusion in space and time. It is also a response to this animation: Life is different from animation, not always a happy comedy.

train

This is a sculpture of time. Trains are often appearing in the film and animation.Film and animation simulate some moment in the real world through polishing and coloring. I painted the model of train a color like an atmosphere in the animation. The atmosphere is a production for human’s emotions. It’s Embedded in our memories and playing over and over again. The base turn a circle every minute, like the clock. A sculpture show a moment but make the loops forever.

The  peacock

According to Taoist perspective on life, humans are controlled by their dreams, but these dreams are indeed ridiculous and moving in circle repeatedly. The film shows human being’s ideal construction and state of mind–delicacy, absurdity, anxiety, and confusion. It also involves the debate over peacock’s tail evolution in order to seek for the meaning of life.I mixed my memories about school life and mind of states in my childhood into imagination, and deconstructed the ways to constructing dreams.
