Chameleon

chameleon change the color of skin according to the surrounding environment for hiding the body, can not only avoid predators, and also confuse their prey. I use against neural network, I input a lot of images of chameleon various parts to the machine learning algorithm, the neural network generated the color-changing chameleon skin based on these pictures – It is a digital camouflage of artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence one day can be like a chameleon hide himself with pixel camouflage?

Childhood

I used machine learning to train on historical speech videos of political figures, then used the results to animate childhood photographs of those figures and make them deliver speeches. The work comprises several video installations that together form an absurd venue for political oratory.

The Encoffiner of data

This work explores the emerging question of digital legacy. I imagine the profession of a data encoffiner, examining through her perspective the data people leave behind. Digital remains carry memories of the dead, along with their sorrows, joys, and other traces. By following a path through the data grave, we explore the secrets preserved in one person’s memory.

Emotional food chain

The program retrieves trending topics from Weibo, and an AI system analyzes their emotional tone to produce a set of parameters. These parameters include the positive, negative, or neutral tendency of each emotion, the popularity of each topic, and the AI’s confidence in its judgment. The program then generates three types of emoji. The parameters determine their type, number, size, lifespan, and other attributes. Emoji representing sadness, anger, and joy attack and devour one another. They mutate, divide, reproduce, camouflage themselves, die, and even form arrays. Can human emotions circulating online develop into an ecosystem?
An infrared sensor captures audience data and generates a fourth emoji. Influenced by other emotional cells, it mutates and participates in the ecosystem.
The work can be understood as a thermometer or “weather forecast” for online public sentiment. It invites viewers to consider whether public opinion can be predicted, regulated, or even manipulated. Could a creature capable of controlling public sentiment emerge in the future?
The work is presented through projection and an installation. Whenever an emoji is killed at a corresponding position in the simulation, an air pump creates bubbles in the water.

Homeland

Some real-estate developments in China have adopted a new strategy to attract buyers: building a community culture that promises to turn the residential compound into a new hometown. By constructing an imagined community, previously estranged urban residents become familiar neighbors. This reconstruction of home by the real-estate industry recalls relationships among people in virtual worlds, creating an unexpected echo between the two.
I created a fictional set of interviews within a virtual community. Animal avatars from different ecosystems speak from their own positions as tourists, residents, security guards, or managers about their hopes for, advantages of, and problems within the community. These conversations address issues familiar from game worlds while closely resembling debates surrounding the construction of urban communities. Behind the characters appears the scenery of an actual residential compound. The real and virtual communities meet through the question of homesickness.
